Depending on how much you like the paint on your vehicle, Quilcene Ridge might be a drive-up. Even so, where the slide alder starts significantly encroaching on the road it's only a quarter mile to the summit. So walking is an option.
Take Highway 101 south from Quilcene about 1.5 miles to Penny Creek Road (NF-27). There are several forks - a GPS for road directions would be handy. You'll stay on NF-27 for just under 7 miles to turn right onto NF-2752 for just over 2 miles and then turn right. From here the road narrows and it's 0.5 miles to the summit - it may seem a bit longer if you are desperate to find one of the rare spots to turn around or park. We worked only 146 and 222MHz FM from this peak - on a weekend there was a good amount of traffic and even a S2S. Easy trees around the summit perimeter to put up a wire for HF. We saw no one but remember to leave antennas clear for motorbikes or trucks that may show up after you.
