Hawk Mountain - August 2019

Summit:
W7O/CN-025

Hawk Mountain was an easy 1 hour hike to a summit with great views of Mt Jefferson and further south. The trail is well maintaned and there were Huckleberries galore that may delay your QRV.

Take forest road 46 (paved) to forest road 6350 and 6355 west to the trail head at 44.84062, -121.94718. Forest road 6350 is a well graded gravel road that is rated "Prius-able". The Hike is 2 miles each way with an elevation gain of 789'.

Wolf Peak - June 2019

Summit:
W7O/CN-042

Wolf Peak turned out to be an awesome summit! It was pretty easy to bushwhack to. Basically, you park at 45.153898, -121.868155 and follow the ridge line up to the top. The ridge is pretty steep to the east so it is easy to follow.

3780 Top Loaded Mountain - July 6, 2019

Summit:
W7W/PL-089

3780 Top Loaded Mountain is an easy 4 point summit in Washington. I was able to activate this summit while out camping with my family at nearby Chehalis RV and Camping Resort. Looking for summits nearby to activate using my SOTA Spotter app 3780 Top Loaded Mountain and Rooster Rock showed up and both had been activated already. Usually that's a good sign that there is a good way to the summit.

Spanish Peak, Oregon | July 2019

Summit:
W7O/CE-040

Spanish Peak is a rough road to a gorgeous 360 view of the Ochoco National Forest and John Day valley. The last half mile to the summit is especially white knuckle as you drive up a road barely wide enough for you car with a steep drop off to the left. But once you're there, the view is amazing! You'll drive past and above the radio tower to the remnants of an old fire lookout. There's plenty of space to park and turn around on the top. Very few trees up there and some steep drop offs, especially to the North.

1460, Oregon | August 2019

Summit:
W7O/NC-121

K7FOP and I joked that this summit report could be summed up in two words: “NOT RECOMMENDED”. But I’ll go into more detail if you’re up for an adventure with your GPS and machete in hand. It’s a heck of a bushwhack for just one point. For a much easier drive up point, try Little Hebo North of Hwy 22.

W7O/CE-298, Peak# 4676 Access

Summit:
W7O/CE-298

Today after completing an activation of Round Butte near Madras Oregon I scouted a possible access route to Peak# 4676, W7O/CE-298 which is located kind of SE of Grizzly Mountain (W7O/CE-135) near Prineville OR.  I found a satellite image of a decent looking parking area off of Grizzly road that would leave about a 2 mile hike up a ridge to the summit.  If you google map 11300 Grizzly Road, Prineville OR you will be in the neighborhood of where I was going to look.  Unfortunately just past this address on Grizzly Road is a gate with lots of very important looking signage...

Crater Peak, OR | August 2019

Summit:
W7O/CS-026

Crater Peak is a pleasant trail hike in Crater Lake National Park. It's been covered in a trip report by Phil-NS7P, so this should be considered a supplement. It's about 6.4 miles round trip, and although the sign at the trailhead says 765 feet of gain, that's net - the gross is more like 1,364 feet with all the ups and downs along the trail.

Lookout Mountain, OR | August 2019

Summit:
W7O/CM-038

One of the many summits named "Lookout Mountain" in Oregon - this one is west of Sunriver and is a near drive-up with a half-mile road walk and about 200 feet of gain. It's also easy to reach by following GPS map directions.
