Wind Mountain is a nice hike in the Gorge with good views (in clear weather). It's about 2.5 miles round-trip and 1000 feet of gain. There's no pass required at the trailhead and it's often less busy than nearby Dog Mountain.

Head east on Highway 14 from Stevenson, Washington about 6.2 miles to Home Valley. Then turn onto Wind Mountain Road for 1.0 miles to turn right onto Girl Scout Road and go about 0.6 miles. This leads to a large dirt parking area at the end of the paving near 45.7145°, -121.7533°. This is usually the best place to park.

The trail starts down the continuation of Girl Scout Road about 150 yards where there is parking for two cars. If you arrive early you may be able to park here.

The trail is about 1.25 miles to the summit, where you may find it windy (doh!), but with great views in clear weather east and west in the Gorge. As instructed by the signs on the summit, don't disturb the rock structures up there. Wildlife included a newt on the trail and a frog at the summit. Plenty of trees to support antennas but have a care not to cross any of the many trails that lead to the summit. This summit doesn't 'see' into the Portland Metro area, so don't expect much on 2m FM and consider bringing some kind of enhanced antenna (yagi, roll-up, etc.).

After your activation you might try Casa de Sabor in Stevenson (47 Russell Avenue). Or Walking Man Brewing (240 First Street), both great after-hike spots.
