Easy 6-Pointer

On November 11, 2016 I was making a blitz trip from Boise down to City of Rocks to activate it in the ARRL’s National Parks on the Air program. I had always wanted to run up to Mt. Harrison and had just enough time in my schedule to do so. I had read W7IMC’s short summary of his 2013 trip, as found on the SOTA Summit Summary. A paved drive up to a 6 pointer! In Idaho! Hard to believe and it is likely the only one of its kind. Sure enough that is what it is.

This is a very easy drive up 6 pointer. On highway 97 go 3 miles north of Chemult and turn right at the Walker Mt LO turn-off (fr94). After a couple miles turn left onto fr9402. There is a sign with nothing on it nailed to a tree at the turn-off. This road will take you all the way to the lookout. It is dusty and bumpy, but most 4x4 suv's should make it no problem. I had to walk around at the summit to get in the required yardage but that was easy as there is alot to explore and views to see.  Lots of antenna support at the top and not many bugs for this time of the year.

Davis Mountain is a drive up summit if you have four wheel drive. Passed Oakridge on hiway 58 turn left on the Crescent Cutoff then go and turn left again to get on the Cascade Lakes Scenic Byway. Near the Davis Lake campground turn right on to National Forest Road 62. Then proceed on Davis Mt Lookout Road to the summit. The road gets very narrow and technical at times. I made it in my Jeep Wrangler and think you should stick to a 4x4. At the summit, there is a large activation area.
