Hike RT 0 – 2 miles
Elevation Gain 0 - 129 feet
This four point summit is accessed off of highway 395 between Pendleton and Mt. Vernon Oregon. An all weather road leads from Long Creek Summit (44.67875, -119.13119) to the base of the hill (44.69941, -119.19531). From there it is drivers choice. A rutted dirt road leads closer to the summit and activation zone. We stopped a bit up this road and hiked a few hundred meters into the activation zone. We never made it to the summit as the weather was dark thunder heads and spitting rain. Fear of being struck by lightning, or having a thunder shower make the rutted road a greasy mess made for a quick activation. So I can’t tell you of the wonders of the actual summit, which was still a ways off. The activation zone is very large. After getting home and looking at what was there, in hindsight, I see that a 4x4 could drive into the AZ. Hence the ranges of hike and elevation given above.
This summit would pair well with Long Creek Mountain, http://www.pnwsota.org/blog/wj7wj/2021-august-15/long-creek-mountain-aug-2021
That was our plan until the weather moved in.
