This is an easy summit to activate. It's just very remote. A large fire lookout is on top of the peak but was not manned the day I was there.
Driving directions: From Yaak, Montana drive 17.5 miles south on 58. Take a left turn onto FS Road 309 and drive 5.27 easy miles to the trailhead. Here there is a winter ski/snowmobile hut with toilets and a large fire pit. Apparently this is a popular winter headquarters for cross country skiing and snowmobiling. The summit is an easy but steep 0.75 miles past the gate on the Forest Service road.
I had a clear sunny but cool day to work with and took my time setting up my gear. I climbed the lookout as far as I could and managed a few 2m contacts from Yaak, Libby and Troy Montana. I got several 20 and 40 meter contacts as well. I had as S2s with K7VK who was 4 miles away on Turner Mountain (a ski area) W7M/LI-108. See the picture below of Turner Mountain from my vantage point. I had to leave for home soon after but K7VK hopped on over to this summit after Turner Mountain and activated this peak as well.
There are several beautiful and easily accessable summits way up here in northern Montana. This one is no exception.
