I'm a retired wildlife biologist. Now I'm a dog trainer. I was active in backpacking, rock climbing and mountaineering when I was younger. I've only got a Technician license for now.

I have not participated in SOTA activities so far. I'm interested in doing activations. My present mobile rig wont work well for this sport. I'm looking for advice on HT radios and antennas.

My favorite part of the hobby is detecting and decoding as many different types of signals as possible. Currently, that's either satellites or digital modes on HF. I tend to work SO-50, AO-73, AO-85, AO-91, and AO-92, but even collecting imagery from NOAA weather satellites and others is always interesting.

On HF, I tend to work QRP modes with my FT-817nd running PSK31, FT8, and Olivia.

I can also be found attempting SOTA activations on the weekends, but I still need to get better, portable antenna for 20 meters.

I've previously held the callsigns KG7GAN and AG7NC.

All logs uploaded to LoTW, QRZ, and eQSL.

Interested in chasing/activating summits. Currently using portable 2m/440 FM HT with a handheld yagi, but will likely get into 20m CW.

Hello, all! I am a Tacoma based SOTA activator with aspirations to activate at least one summit per month until I hit my goat!

I like to activate peaks that are a challenging hike or climb all throughout Washington. I hope to expand out into more regions later, especially those I can travel to with my airline benefits. I currently activate with an Elecraft KX2 or a Penntek TR-35. I also chase remotely from my QTH with an Icom 9700 or a Flex 6400. My favorite activated summits so far have definitely been Mount Baker (W7W/WH-001) and Mount Hood (W7O/CN-001)!

Being in the mountains is just about my favorite way to spend time.

When I am not carrying a radio into the woods to do SOTA or support a wilderness ultra, I like to build RF gear of all sorts. I pick SOTA summits for the challenge or hike rather than the points and when I am out I really enjoy chasing other SOTA ops for S2S points.

My primary rigs are the KX2 and FT2D. I generally use endfed antennas for HF and a half-wave whip or beam for VHF/UHF. I mostly work CW on HF and FM voice on 2M.

In 2021, I put together the first Pacific Northwest Not-Quite-Fourteener to coincide with the Ham14er and Socal SOTAFest. It turned out pretty well, with more than a dozen W7W and W7O ops getting out and making a bunch of S2S contacts.

Father of 2 teenaged sons and very active in Boy Scouts. Avid backpacker, QRP CW OP, restorer of ancient Volkswagens, dirt bike rider, computer nerd, and all around nice guy =) PNWSOTA admin and host.

I went on my first SOTA activation with Rich (AC7MA) and Bill (WA7NCL) in July 2017. I was hooked! I now have a KX2 and have been going on as many activations as my schedule will allow. I mainly do CW and sometimes 2m FM.

Hello from Marysville, Washington! I first became exposed to amateur radio through my work at the National Weather Service. It took me about 13 years but I finally studied and obtained my Technician license in January 2024. I switched my assigned callsign (KK7QWK) to WX7RAW since "WX" is widely used as shorthand for "weather" and RAW are my initials.

For the moment, I can be found on 2m/70cm FM simplex and repeaters in the Puget Sound region either from my home in Marysville or on my daily commute to Seattle and back. As many do these days, I started with a Baofeng UV-5R8W and Explorer QRZ-1 and am trying to get as much out of them as I can. I'm a member of the WA7LAW – The Snohomish County Hams Club. I'd like to explore SOTA & POTA in 2024.

Professionally, I serve as the Warning Coordination Meteorologist with the National Weather Service in Seattle, WA. In this role, I serve as the primary liaison between the National Weather Service and its core partners. I hold a Master’s in Atmospheric Science from the University of Washington.

I'm new to SOTA, POTA, and ham radio in general. I've always loved hiking and am looking to improve my fitness while also enjoying a new hobby.

Originally from California and moved up to Oregon. I got my license in the early 90's but haven't been very active until now. Really wanting to see how things have changed.

Just getting started. Really want to explore POTA and SOTA. Going to contribute any way I can.

Primary QTH is in Bishop, CA, but my wife and I have a home in Astoria, OR and spend considerable time there--planning to make it home after retirement and hope to be very active in the PNW. Right now, most of my activating is in the White Mountains (WH) and Northern deserts (ND) of W6. I hear and work lots of PNW SOTA activators at my home and S2S. Mostly CW, but I'll break out a microphone now and then. Rig is a KX2, usually running an EFHW.

Mostly CW. Enjoy activating--usually W6/ND and WH, but also do a lot of chasing. Still new at CW, but enjoying it and getting better. Rig is KX2, usually at 5 watts and usually into an EFHW.

Activating SOTA summits since 2017 and still loving every minute (day) of it!

Typically working local peaks within 50-75 miles of my home. Have now activated peaks in Oregon, Washington, Arizona and Idaho. You can find me on VHF-fm (5 watts) and HF-ssb (10 watts).

I enjoy hiking with a purpose. Sometimes the purpose is to hold the antenna for KK7NWD. Sometimes it's talking to people with our FT5DR on 2m FM or C4FM.

I'm interested in activating and chasing the summits near Seattle.
