KE7JWP and I did an attempt on Gambol Knob earlier today. For me this was like the fifth visit to the area of the summit.
Its located in Campbell Global land, so a recreation permit is needed. I have had a motorized permit for a couple of different years. My previous visits were the long way through Campbell Global land......
My last visit made me decide that I wanted somone with me to make this attempt. Lots of steep. Trees. Lots of slash.
This summit can also be access by FR 62, which until recently was gated as it was Weyerhauser recreation land (leased). So this made it easier for access since someone going with me simply needed a one day access permit.
So I called Chuck, and we decided on today.... After sending out an email and posting an alert, it became apparent that other SOTA peeps would be in the area to chase on 2 meters, whcih was good as I was not expecting any contacts on 2 meters....
The weather was awesome. This is a very short route, but it did take us 2-1/2 hours to get to the summit.
KG7EJT, AC7MA, and WW7D, were all standing by as they were headed up to Persis. We made additional contacts with W7GG (on .580), K3OG (remote, and later direct), KJ7LSM, KI7MMZ, and KF7ZYF.
It took us 2-1/2 hours to get down.....
Thanks to all the chasers!
