Drive Up – True Summit is 459 Feet from Vehicle, +23 ft

Driving Directions

Turn east off highway 89 at Kings Hill just north of the Kings Hill Cabin.  Stay to the right and follow the road south as it bends past the cabin.  The road climbs up Kings Hill and bends to the east for about 1-mile.  Turn left at the trail junction and follow FS-251 for 8.2-miles as it heads north along the crest of the ridge to the junction with FS-3300.  Stay right and continue following FS-251 another 2.3-miles to the junction with FS-2070.  Follow FS-2070 0.4-miles and park at the west end of the summit ridge.  The summit is the talus cone that is about 200-feet west.

Road Conditions

FS-251 is an unsurfaced road that tends to have ruts and mud holes.  It is likely passable with care and diligence in a Subaru.  A vehicle with clearance can make good time at about 10-20 mph.  FS-251 is rougher beyond the junction with FS-3300 and should likely not be attempted without a suitable 4wd.  The road is also narrow in spots with steep drop offs that may require some nerve if you are in a full-sized vehicle.  My 2017 4Runner did not have any troubles.  FS-2070 is a steep talus shelf road that can be loose and scrabbly in spots.  My 4Runner made it without any difficulties, but I did engage the rear locker in one spot as a precautionary measure to minimize slippage.
